Earth Sciences

The description of an area from a geological perspective (strategraphic and structural) can be done either by indirect or direct methods. Direct methods generally consist of mapping an area and describing the outcrops via field work, correlating what is found in the field, and developing a geological model for the study zone. This method is only utilized when the area permits; for example, in zones where different rock types and geological structures that affect them can be seen. When an area is covered by vegetation, water or another obstacle, indirect methods are used. Indirect methods utilize techniques that describe, via the distribution of a physical property (density, velocity, resistance, etc.), measured indirectly (electronmagnetic signals, seismic signals, gravimetric fields, etc.), what cannot be observed directly. These methods make up the field of Geophysics. This area of Geology has been and continues to be very useful in the exploration of natural resources and in the description of a zone from a geophysical-geological perspective, determining the structural and spatial distribution of the distinct strategraphic sequences in the subsoil. Lorax has ample experience in the realization of geological studies via indirect and direct methods.

In this field, Lorax offers the following services:

  • Vertical electric sounding
  • Marine seismic reflection studies
  • Passive seismic studies
  • Active seismic studies
  • Field prospection
  • Geological structure mapping

For the realization of these studies, Lorax utilizes highly precise instrumentation such as seismographs, marine seismographs, resistivity meters and magnetometers.

Lorax has carried out diverse prospection studies for the identification of stony material banks (rocks, sand, etc.) and has detailed information of banks already in existence in northwestern Mexico.

In this field, Lorax offers the following services:

  • Rock bank identification
  • Sand and gravel bank identification
  • Assistance in obtaining concessions for the exploitation of stony resources
