Digital Cartography

Lorax offers the following digital cartography services: Cartography digitalization, Thematic map generation, Construction of Geographic Information Systems and Acquisition and processing of satellite images.

Geographic Information Systems

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) consist of superimposed georeferenced information layers, which allow the spatial distribution of any characteristic related with a portion of territory to be visualized. GIS are a useful tool for the organization, visualization and manipulation of territorial resource information.

To construct GIS, georeferenced information organized into thematic maps and a computer system that allows for the manipulation of information and the superimposition of those maps is required.

The application of GIS to the management of natural resources ranges from the description of resources to the definition of territorial units with homogenous characteristics.

GIS have become a basic tool for the realization of territorial ordinance, urban development and other environmental administration programs.

Lorax has the necessary software and personnel specialized in the integration and management of GIS and has developed or applied GIS in diverse projects.

Acquisition and Processing of Satellite Images

There is a wide spectrum of satellite images available that ranges from free images to high resolution images with information in distinct bands. The acquisition and manipulation of these images for distinct purposes requires personnel trained in the utilization of specialized software.

To acquire high resolution satellite images, Lorax has established working relationships with Resources Strategies, Inc. (based in California, USA) and with the satellite image distributer, Space Imaging.

Through these companies, Lorax offers the following products:

IKONOS panchromatic satellite images with resolution up to 1.5m per pixel.
